We have been a pioneer in the craft beer industry since opening our original Arbor Brewing Company Pub and Eatery in downtown Ann Arbor, MI in July of 1995. Our commitment to handcrafted beer, exceptional hospitality, local sourcing, community involvement, and environmental stewardship has been the foundation for our growth and success for nearly two decades. ABC was founded by husband and wife team Matt and Rene Greff who share a passion for beer and adventure. By their late 20s the Greffs had become disenchanted with their corporate gigs and soon after brewpubs were legalized in Michigan, they set about opening their own brewery. They raised their startup capital through a network of friends, family, and co-workers and became the first brewpub to open in Ann Arbor and the fifth to open in Michigan’s fledgling microbrewery movement. Somehow we survived the trials and tribulations of our first few rocky years in business and by 2001 we had maxed out capacity on our 7 bbl system and were looking for ways to add new tanks. Fortune was on our side when an adjacent building became available and we set about expanding our operations with the addition of a small banquet space, an additional 30 bbls of fermentation and serving tank capacity.
Arcadia Brewing Company was established in 1996 as a microbrewery specializing in handcrafted British-style ales. All of our beers are produced in small batches, and our 25 Barrel Peter Austin Brewery and methods originated in England, which allows this style of beer to reflect over 250 years of world class brewing heritage.
In addition to brewing on authentic British equipment, Arcadia uses only the finest malted barley from England, and when combined with the freshest hops from the Pacific Northwest of our United States, and our legendary Ringwood yeast, the result is some of the best and freshest handcrafted ales available, on any continent.

Located in Detroit's historic Rivertown district, and housed in a 1919 factory warehouse, Atwater Brewery was founded in March of 1997 with the purpose of carrying on the rich history of breweries in Detroit. Our brewing process, however, is over 200 years old.
Our imported Kasper Schultz brew house allows us to brew our brands in the true heritage-style of traditional German lagers. And, when we say, "imported brew house," we mean it! All of our main brewing equipment was brought in from Germany, where precision and passion for beer has its roots. In fact, when we have service calls on our equipment, we call in the Germans!
Likewise, we only use the finest malt and hops from Germany to brew our lagers. Our specialty ales, on the other hand, are brewed with only the finest American hops. All of which makes Atwater beers distinctly fresh and flavorful. Which is exactly why we live by the slogan: "We drink all we can and sell the rest."
Since 1993 our brewery has been committed to producing eccentric ales and lagers that defy styles or categories. Our products are thoroughly American at heart: blending Old World tradition and expertise with ingenuity, creativity and boldness.

Founded by Larry Bell in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Bell's Brewery, Inc. sold its first beer in September 1985. Beer was initially brewed in a 15-gallon soup kettle and the company has grown remarkably from its production of 135 barrels (1 bbl = 31 gal.) in 1986 to a capacity of more than 500,000 barrels today.
Originally self-distributed, Larry and his staff of 9 employees bottled and delivered all of the beer to market during the company's first four years. By 1989, Bell's was shipping over 500 barrels annually and assigned its first wholesaler to further establish itself across the state of Michigan. In 1993, Bell's became the first Michigan brewery to open an onsite pub.

Big Sky Brewing Company was started by Neal Leathers, Bjorn Nabozney, and Brad Robinson. Brad and Neal had been homebrewers in Michigan since the mid 1980’s, and had moved to Missoula with a group of friends in the summer of 1990.

Beer as Art. Or Is It the Other Way Around? At Blue Moon Brewing Company®, we believe brewing is an art. And it's been that way since our head brewmaster and founder, Keith Villa, first created Blue Moon® Belgian White Belgian-Style Wheat Ale back in 1995 in downtown Denver, Colorado.
It all started with Keith's idea to craft a beer inspired by the flavorful Belgian Wits that he enjoyed while studying brewing in Belgium. He brewed his interpretation using the highest quality ingredients like Valencia orange peel, versus the traditional tart Curaçao orange peel, for a subtle sweetness. Then he added oats and wheat to create a smooth, creamy finish that is inviting to the palate. As a final touch, he garnished the beer with an orange slice to heighten the citrus aroma and taste.

BottleTree Beer Co. is a craft beer company headquartered in Tryon, North Carolina. Its debut retail beer -- BottleTree Blonde -- is currently being produced at Thomas Creek Brewery. Imperial Irish Red Ale (7.5%) is now available. GA/SC/NC and PA currently have kegs available.
In 1979 two professors at the University of Colorado received the 43rd brewing license issued in the United States, creating Boulder Beer Company, Colorado’s First Microbrewery. The original site of the brewery was a small farm northeast of Boulder, the brew house sharing space in a shed originally housing a few goats!
In a world of light yellow lagers, Boulder Beer won industry and consumer accolades for its line of bold Boulder Beers: Boulder Porter, Stout and Extra Special Bitter. Five years later, the brewery moved to it's current site in Boulder and expanded from its original one-barrel brewing system to a 50-barrel brew house with top-of-the-line packaging equipment. In 1994 we converted the original tasting room to our full-menu pub and epic patio under the Flatirons.
Our brewers continue to test boundaries with unique blends and combinations on our pilot brewing system and barrel-aged program. Stop in to our Pub for this week’s “Brewer’s Choice” and who knows, you could be sampling the first batch of The Next Big Thing!
Back in the 1980s our founder had a dream – to ski all day and drink great beer every night. Since he lived in the snow-kissed Rocky Mountains, fulfilling the skiing portion of his dream was easy. But the great beer part – at a time when a "microbrew" was a rarity – that was another story. So he started brewing his own, more flavorful beers for himself and his thrill-seeking ski pals.
His homebrewed creations were a hit, and soon our founder was spending more time brewing than skiing. So he chased after another dream – making exceptional beer for a living. In February, 1990 that dream became reality when we opened the original Breckenridge Brewery & Pub in the town of Breckenridge, Colorado. Our founder's ski bum days were over, and so were the days of bland beer for the folks in Colorado's ski country.
Today Breckenridge Brewery continues to work hard to satisfy the thirsts of discerning beer drinkers. The original recipes – and a handful of seasonal creations – are now handcrafted at our three Breckenridge Brewery locations in Colorado. In 1992 we opened our sister brewpub in downtown Denver, at 22nd and Blake Street. Just a block from Coors Field, home of the Colorado Rockies, our Denver pub is home to locals, baseball fans and Denver visitors who seek a quality meal and craft beer with character.
In May 1996 we expanded our family again with the opening of our brewing and bottling facility in Denver's historic Santa Fe Art District neighborhood. Here our brewmaster and staffers craft and package the bottled and kegged versions of our nationally acclaimed beers. An adjoining tasting room allows guests to savor their brews in a cozy setting, in full view of the brew kettles and bottling line.
Sure, our growth means we're spending a little less time on the slopes and in the high country. But we're not complaining. In the past two decades we've grown from a small 3,000-barrels-a-year brewpub to one of the most successful craft beer companies in the nation. We now handcraft nearly 30,000 barrels of fresh beer each year and sell it across Colorado and 25 other states.

Welcome to Brewery Vivant! We are excited to share our passion for beer, food and sustainability with you. Much of the inspiration behind Vivant comes from the small breweries that dot the countryside in Southern Belgium and Northern France. Many of those breweries are true beer artisans who are also an integral part of their community. They experiment with unique yeasts and ingredients, always with an artistic eye to their creations. They source a lot of items locally which makes their beer pair exceptionally well with the food they harvest. Many of these family businesses also wear many hats besides brewer, including educator, visitor guide, and town mayor. Though we don't aspire to be the mayor of Grand Rapids, it is important to us to be more than just a manufacturer of great beer (although that is our first passion). A clever man once said: 'Stay thirsty... stay foolish.' That sounds like our vision, just with a tad less attitude.
The Sherrow's passion for wine and beer began long before the business. They started visiting vineyards and wineries all across the country when they married in 1999, helping them develop a unique knowledge of wines and customer preferences. While Matt was in graduate school, they started putting ideas to plan, and using personal financing, they opened the Fenton Winery in 2007 at 1545 North Leroy St. in Fenton.
The first shipment of kegs was picked up in October 2013. Their distributor, Rave Associates, based in Ann Arbor, delivered fresh made Fenton beer immediately to several local restaurants.
Over the next year, the Fenton Winery & Brewery will continue to expand distribution of its wine and beer, its lounge and banquet operations, and construct a new tap room, beer garden and banquet facility at the new location.
Founders has built its brewery on the exploration of recipe development and brewing techniques. The philosophy is simple. We are not the standard microbrewery; rather, we have traveled a path that breaks from the "standard" craft brewer. Carving a niche out of the craft industry, we at Founders Brewing Company have built our reputation on producing very unique beer. Fox Barrel Cider Company was founded by Sean Deorsey and Bruce Nissen in 2004. Both tired of the corporate life, in the accounting & sales arenas, Sean and Bruce decided to start their own business. Sean has been crafting ciders since his days at Santa Clara Universityand believes that "it's much better to crunch apples than to crunch numbers." Along with his wife and two young daughters, Sean resides in Auburn, California.
Bruce has worked in sales, marketing and business management roles over the past several years. He had been interested in developing an organization and had become smitten with cider since introduced to it several years ago. Along with his wife and their young son & daughter, Bruce resides in Colfax, California.

When the first Goose Island Brewpub opened its doors in 1988, domestic, mass-produced beer was deeply ingrained in Midwestern culture. The craft beer industry was still in its infancy, with only a handful of brewpubs in existence in the Midwest. In his travels across Europe, beer-lover John Hall had enjoyed a distinctive local brew in each region he visited. Hall was convinced that Midwesterners could produce beers as good or better than those he'd tasted in his travels. Living on the shore of the largest system of fresh water on the planet Earth, in a city with rapidly evolving tastes – John decided that his hometown, Chicago, would be the ideal place to do just that.

Granite City Food & Brewery®, a casual dining restaurant with an on-site brewery. Our initial restaurant commenced operations in St. Cloud, Minnesota, in June 1999. Our second restaurant, located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, commenced operations in December 2000, and our third restaurant opened to the public November 20, 2001 in Fargo, North Dakota. We now have 26 stores operating in 11 different states. GREAT LAKES BREWING
In the 1870s Cleveland was a hotbed of breweries. By the early 1980s, the last of them shuttered its doors. It wasn't until September 6, 1988 when brothers Patrick and Daniel Conway opened Great Lakes Brewing Company in Cleveland's historic Ohio City neighborhood, that a new era of Cleveland brewing began. As Ohio's first craft brewery, Great Lakes Brewing Company attracted curious locals seeking high-quality flavorful brews drawn from the taps of our beautiful Victorian-era bar. Our commitment to sustainable business practices greatly contributed to our early popularity and success. Before long, Great Lakes Brewing Company became one of Cleveland's most popular destinations for dining and celebration.
Mike and Lisa Hinkley took their interest in the craft beer industry to a new level in 2002 when they founded Green Flash Brewing Company. Former pub owners, Mike and Lisa jumped into brewing, and in 2004 renowned brewmaster Chuck Silva joined the team. With Chuck on board we began brewing premium style beers, modern twists on traditional styles, and our beers began to develop a following. Cutting edge brews, Green Flash Brewing Company’s beers don’t fit traditional guidelines, instead we let our hybrid, benchmark beers blaze their own trail. Located in San Diego, CA, we specialize in brewing assertive and distinctive beers, such as our West Coast I.P.A.: an award-winning beer whose wide acceptance has helped define a category. We also brew seasonal, collaborative and barrel-aged beers. Our award-winning beers are on draft and bottled and are available throughout the United States in bars, restaurants and retail outlets.
GRIFFIN CLAW BREWERY
Located in Birmingham's emerging new Rail District, the brewing and distributing facility will also feature a tasting room, restaurant and beer garden. GCBC is scheduled to open in March 2013.
We started the Harpoon Brewery in 1986 because—like today—we loved beer and wanted more quality choices.
There was only one problem: we were beer lovers, not brewers. We knew what we wanted to drink, but we needed some help actually brewing it. So we enlisted our first brewer, took over some warehouse space on the Boston waterfront, and began introducing fresh, local craft beer to Boston drinkers. We tried to do it in a way that captured the spirit of fun that had brought us to beer in the first place. From that warehouse, surrounded by fish companies on the docks of South Boston (neighboring what is now the Seaport District), we couldn't imagine that craft brewing would become what it has today.
Our brewery – founded in 1589 by William V, Duke of Bavaria – has written Munich beer history and helped shape the city's beer culture. We are proud that brewing beer the Hofbräuhaus way for over 400 years has played a role in forming the heritage of our beautiful city.
The crowned HB Logo – a trademark owned by Staatliches Hofbräuhaus in München, which sells its beer under the name of Hofbräu München – is known the world over. In recent times the German beer market has undergone a consolidation process, and Hofbräu München which is in the possession of the Bavarian state, is one of the last two traditional Munich breweries still in Bavarian ownership. "Hofbräu, mein München" is a passionate declaration of our commitment to Munich, its people and the Bavarian way of life.

Kona Brewing Company was started by father and son team Cameron Healy and Spoon Khalsa. The pair had a dream to create fresh, local island brews made with spirit, passion and quality. Their love of Hawaii, and a desire to protect the pristine environment here, brought them to the Big Island to fulfill their vision. Kona Brewing continues to be headquartered right where it began, in Kailua-Kona on Hawaii's Big Island.
From our earliest days of striving to make consistently good beer, and instead making beer that ranged from vile, to barely drinkable, to wonderful, to elegant, to questionable-at-best. From being castigated by our West Marin neighbors to finally suffering an 'eviction' by our West Marin septic system. From landing in the welcoming arms of Petaluma, and actually getting our beer into bottles, onto the streets, and into the hands of sympathetic beer geeks, to steadily losing less money each month. From all this and more, Lagunitas Brewing Company is emerging as a battle-tested brewery capable of making great beer out of goat's milk, brambles, and asphalt on the surface of the Moon, if need be.

Welcome to Leelanau Brewing, where each and every beer is hand-made in small batches, using age old techniques of open fermentation, barrel aging and bottle conditioning. We do not pitch any wild yeasts into our alchemy. Our magic is performed the old fashioned way. All Leelanau Brewing Company beers are aged in custom made oversized French oak barrels. Our headquarters are situated on 18 acres of family owned land located two miles south of Leland, Michigan. Our bed and breakfast, ancient black walnut groves, cherry orchards, pear groves and our future brewing site are all within earshot of Lake Michigan.

Was a humble one. In the early days Jacob Leinenkugel and business partner, John Miller, were the only employees. Jacob brewed the beer, 400 barrels in the first year, and John delivered it using a small cart and a horse named Kate. The partnership flourished for seventeen years until 1884 when John sold his share of the company to Jacob.
With the help of his wife, Josephine, and their children the brewery grew. In 1890 a new four-story brewhouse was built. Sadly, that same year Josephine passed away. Though saddened by the loss of his wife Jacob continued to expand the brewery they had both worked to cultivate. Over the next few years an icehouse, three-story malt house, bottling house, cooper shop and barns were added.
LIBERTY STREET BREWING
Liberty Street Brewing Company began in concept back in 2006, and finally became a reality in the fall of 2008. We provide an elegant atmosphere where people can enjoy a fine, hand crafted beer in Plymouth, Michigan's historic Old Village.

This new brewery operation is strictly manufacturing and packaging using the same recipes that have been successfully developed for years at the brewpub. In 2008, shipments of beers such as the Gamblers Golden Ale, Railyard Raspberry Wheat and Cow Catcher Red Ale were flying out of the brewery and into restaurants and bars across Michigan. As our aspiring young homebrewer rides his mountain bike with "fat tires" through European villages famous for beer, New Belgium Brewing Company was but a glimmer in his eye. Or basement. For Jeff Lebesch would return to Fort Collins with an imagination full of recipes and a handful of ingredients ready to embark on a whole new journey.
Jeff's first two basement-brewed creations? A brown dubbel with earthy undertones named Abbey and a remarkably well-balanced amber he named Fat Tire. To say the rest was history would be to overlook his wife's involvement. Kim Jordan was New Belgium's first bottler, sales rep, distributor, marketer and financial planner.
Jeff's Belgian inspired brews garnered enough praise from friends and neighbors that Jeff and Kim take their basement brewery commercial in 1991. Kim, social worker by day and mother to two always, began the marketing process by knocking on their neighbor's door. Anne Fitch was that neighbor and her watercolors are the artwork we continue to use on our labels today. With labeled bottles and local encouragement, the first Belgian-style beers brewed in the United States were officially for sale.

Newcastle Brown Ale (colloquially "Newkie Brown" (UK), "Newcastle" (US) or "Dog" (North East)) is the world's best known brown ale and an icon of the North East of England. The brand is owned by Heineken and produced at their John Smith's Brewery in Tadcaster, North Yorkshire, England.
It was launched in 1927 by Colonel Jim Porter after three years of development. The merger of Newcastle Breweries with Scottish Brewers afforded the beer national distribution, and United Kingdom sales peaked by the early 1970s. The brand underwent a resurgence in the late 1980s-early 1990s with a cult revival in student unions. By the late 1990s the beer was the most widely distributed alcoholic product in the UK. By the 2000s, the majority of sales were in the United States, where the beer has proven extremely popular, although it still sells 100 million bottles annually in the UK. In 2005, brewing was moved from Newcastle upon Tyne to Dunston on the other side of the River Tyne, and in 2010 moved entirely to Tadcaster, North Yorkshire.

North Peak Brewing Company is located in a historic building which was formerly the Big Daylight Candy Factory. In March of 1899, a partnership was formed by John G. Straub, his brother, Anton F. Straub and George E. Amiotte in the creation of candies and confectionary in Traverse City.
Under the style of Straub Brothers and Amiotte, the firm soon established success with a large local following and an extensive wholesale trade. So rapidly did the business increase, that it became necessary to provide a building of sufficient capacity to meet the growing demands of the trade.
The building housing North Peak Brewing Company was Straub's third and final building. Straub Brothers and Amiotte "Big Daylight Candy Factory" is a handsome imposing brick edifice of three floors and a basement. It was constructed with 400,000 bricks and 250,000 feet of lumber, erected and supplied with the latest and most approved machinery devices for the manufacturing of all kinds of candies. It compared favorably on a scale with the largest and most successful establishments of its kind.
In what has become known as the Craft Beer Revolution, the year 1989 stands out as a landmark moment when the Old Dominion Brewing Co. established a brewpub operation in Ashburn, Virginia.
The small brewpub quickly became a production brewery that was named one of the Top 50 breweries in the U.S. The brewery cultivated a community, in which many discovered the joy and wonder of craft beer, inspiring many of the company's brewers to start successful breweries of their own. We soon found ourselves working around the clock to provide our potent potables and gourmet soda up and down the East Coast.

Instead of creating one giant brewery here in Longmont, Colorado, we decided to spread out. “My vision is go big or go home,” said Perrin, whose new operation features an outdoor hop garden, gleaming concrete bar and in-house food truck serving a 218-seat taproom with a VIP loft, all situated alongside large windows into the brewhouse, where patrons can soon watch the bottling and canning lines in operation.
The brewery is planning to produce between 3,000 and 5,000 barrels of beer yet this year, and kegs of their black lager and strong pale ale have been steadily trickling into West Michigan bars for about the last month.
Perrin’s system has the capacity to brew up to 20,000 barrels per year (one barrel is 31 U.S. gallons), making them the second largest brewery in Grand Rapids behind Founders, and the fourth largest in West Michigan behind Bell’s and New Holland.

After collecting gold in ’06 and bronze in ’07 in the Belgian White category at the North American Beer Awards, we decided to brew year-round and switch the name to Shock Top. THE SHORT'S STORY BEGAN IN 2002 when a 22-year-old brewer named Joe Short registered Short's Brewing Company as a business in the state of Michigan. Having already gained significant brewing experience at other Michigan breweries, Joe realized that his style of brewing was best suited to his own business model where he would not have to answer to anyone for putting lots (and lots) of the best possible ingredients into his brews, or for brewing specialty beers that some might consider outrageous. Joe wanted to brew bold, flavorful and extremely creative beer, and felt that people would travel out of the way to get them.

In operation since late 2002, Southern Tier Brewing Company of Lakewood, New York, has grown to produce more than 90,000 barrels of beer annually. The hand crafted ales are now available in more than thirty States and points beyond.
Founders Phineas DeMink and Allen “Skip” Yahn started the brewery with the vision of reviving the practice of small batch brewing to a region rich in brewing tradition. In 2002, with equipment gained from the purchase of the Old Saddleback Brewing Co. in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, the Southern Tier Brewing Company began production in the Stoneman Business Park just outside of Lakewood, New York. By 2003, select varieties of small batch ales were locally distributed, and by 2005, sales covered the majority of New York State and Pennsylvania. Before launching a successful roster of seasonal beers, the brewery produced Pilsner, Mild Ale, and India Pale Ale.
Southern Tier immediately garnered regional attention and demand for the product quickly outgrew what their modest facility could handle. In 2009 a new 20,000 square foot building was built for the purpose of brewing innovative, high-quality beer to accommodate an expanding customer base. In this new facility, the small brewery was able to grow and offer the product both nationally and internationally, while still satisfying its loyal fans.

Our Brewmaster's Premium Reserve beers can be aged liked fine wine or immediately enjoyed if you cannot wait. Belgium is revered for its ingenuity and beer brewing tradition when it comes to speciality beers. Part of this rich history means that six out of the seven remaining Trappist beer breweries are in Belgium. A Trappist ale is one that is brewed by the monks themselves, while abbey ales have a history that can be traced back to a religious order, but are now made by brewers. St. Stefanus is an abbey beer with a strong link to the order of Sint Stefanus. Abbey beers tend to have a rich history and a distinctive taste because of the age-old recipes and brewing processes.

TailGate Beer was founded by a 21-year-old homebrewer, Wesley Keegan. The story goes, Wesley was approached by his father, Tim, one day about what he was going to do with his life. As an ocean lifeguard and co-owner of a bar, Wesley thought he had it made. His dad informed him of a trademark he had won in 2004 and subsequently protected in contest from Anheuser Busch. The name was TailGate Beer.
Tim thought TailGate Beer was something special. As an avid sports fan and tailgater, Tim implored Wesley to take his homebrews that people loved drinking and brew TailGate Beer! Wesley, having put himself through college at San Diego State University, grew up modestly. The gift of TailGate Beer was a generous one but, unlike some tales of entrepreneurism, didn't come with startup funds.
They both agreed the name was solid and the marketing would one day be fun, but Wesley was emphatic that the beer had to be excellent. From there, Wesley took what he liked to brew, and brewed in Southern California. All initial beers were brewed and packaged in kegs and glass bottles. Wesley entered into the Great American Beer Festival in 2007 and although no formal awards were won, TailGate Beer was a hit! This drew lots of attention from beer fans from all over the country. The common response was "great beer!" and "great name!" So with confirmation of Wesley's biggest apprehension – people loved the beer – TailGate Beer was born.

The brewery was created in 2000 by 4 brew-engineers, after being graduated from KaHo St. Lieven in Gent, the best known brewing school of Flanders. Their names: Kristof De Roo, Rikkert Maertens, Stefaan Soetemans and Sven Suys. Just out of school, it was soon pretty clear to them that brew-master jobs are not easy to get in the Belgian beer world. Family traditions and brewing secrets are kept closely guarded within the brewing family. Like the real French Musketeers of the 18th century, the 4 friends bundled their enthusiasm and efforts, and created the Musketeers brewing company. After investing in some brewing equipment, many experiments in the 'garage', and several trials and errors the results were a great beer that all 4 brew-masters loved and believed in: a semi-strong BLOND. The first phase of the BIG dream had been accomplished. The challenge now was to produce the beer commercially and get people to drink it in restaurants and bars.
From the very beginning, Unibroue has carved out a special niche in the beer world with top quality products and a brand rooted deep in Quebec culture. It made history by becoming the first North American beer maker to use a brewing method inspired by the two-centuries-old tradition developed by Trappist monks in Europe—particularly in Belgium. Over the years, Unibroue has remained faithful to its origins even as it has grown to become an icon of the brewing world. A long time ago, way back in 1990, there was a little winery in the town of Proctorsville, Vermont. Back then, we made our living producing a variety of apple wines, something not many wineries do. We also made a little cider called "Vermont Old-Fashioned Hard Cider" – not the most catchy name, yet pretty darn appropriate.
We set out to create a truly American hard cider – a feat that hadn't really been accomplished in the last 200+ years. (Sorry, but we just can't count the stuff your grandpa made in "The Woodshed.") The crafting process started with the Vermont Old-Fashioned Hard Cider we already had on hand. Countless changes were made, not the least of which was taking the alcohol content down from 12% to 5%. After three months of blood, sweat and tears, a new cider was born. (Don't worry, we kept all the blood sweat and tears out of the cider.)
The Worthington Brewery (Worthington & Co.) was founded by William Worthington in the English Midlands town of Burton upon Trent in 1761. It is the second oldest continuously brewed beer brand in the country after Whitbread. The best known Worthington beers are the Creamflow nitrokeg product and White Shield India Pale Ale.
When William Worthington died in 1800, his brewery was one of the largest outside of London. From 1866 a Worthington chemist, Horace Tabberer Brown, pioneered brewing science in the separation and cultivation of pure yeast strains, and from 1872 the company was the first in the world to systematically utilise a laboratory in the brewing process. The company merged with its major Burton rival Bass in 1927. Throughout the 1920s until the 1960s the brand, in bottled form, ranked alongsideBass and Guinness as one of only three beers with nationwide distribution. However, bottled beer sales declined as keg beer grew in popularity throughout the 1960s, and the Worthington brewery was closed in 1965. The beers continued to be brewed elsewhere, and Bass used the Worthington brand for its principal keg bitter offerings from the 1960s onward, first as Worthington E, then as Worthington Best Bitter from the 1980s, and Worthington Creamflow from the 1990s to the present.
